U-M had 3,340 U.S. students participating in education-abroad programs during 2022-23 — the most recent academic year with complete data.
The annual Open Doors report by the Institute of International Education, a New York-based nonprofit, ranked U-M as the No. 1 public university and the No. 2 in the nation for education abroad.
U-M has bounced back after the COVID-19 pandemic with a 70% increase over 2020-21. In the 2022-23 academic year, U-M students traveled to 124 countries, with Spain, Italy and France as the top three destinations.
